Are turnips keto?

Yes, turnip is an amazing potato replacement. Not only is it low in calories, but it’s also high in nutritional value. Here’s what you need to know about this potato substitute.

What are turnips?

Turnip is a root vegetable sometimes referred to as a keto potato or low-carb potatoes. It belongs to the same family as cabbage, broccoli and kale. It has a white, swollen root that tapers down into a thin stem, and a green leafy top. Turnips are generally round or oblong in shape and have a white, purple, or red skin.

How to cook turnips?

Turnips have a similar texture to potatoes and can be used in cooking the same way you would use potatoes. You can slice them into thin turnip fries and bake or roast them in the oven, make a turnip soup, a turnips salad, or prepare some tasty turnip hash brown. The opportunities are endless when you’ve found your low-carb alternatives to potatoes!

What do turnips taste like?

Despite its similarities to potatoes, the turnip’s taste varies depending on its maturity. While they generally have a spicy undertone, younger turnips tend to have a sweet taste similar to carrots. Mature turnips, on the other hand, have a flavor similar to potatoes. Some people find the taste of raw turnips to be quite strong or even unpleasant, but I think the flavor of cooked turnips is generally more mild and palatable.
